Want to know what we did in 2015, 2014, 2013, and 2012?
Thanks to everyone for a wonderful Knit in Style weekend at Mohonk Mountain House! This was our fourth year celebrating the fiber arts at the gorgeous historic retreat, and it was great to see old friends, make new ones, and enjoy all things knitty in the fresh mountain air. (It even snowed for us---beautiful Catskills!) Our Marketplace was overloaded with goodies---exclusives like TYC Go-To, Crazy Multigrain Loaf, Spot-On, Caper Sock from String Theory, ---and of course The Verdant Gryphon Crib was in full flower. Friday night the brilliant Norah Gaughan gave a killer keynote speech, “Playing with Cables,” sharing her fascinating creative process in which she “draws” with cable. Saturday Trisha Malcom of Vogue Knitting presented a runway show previewing this spring’s creations---wow! And in the evening it was “Meet the Stars” cocktail hour in the Parlor, with more luminaries such as Shiri Mor and Jamie from The Verdant Gryphon. Throughout the rustic weekend there were workshops and classes in knitting for every level, taught by renowned designers such as Irina Poludnenko, including specialty classes in Entrelac, cabling, lace, Fair Isle, finishing, hat shaping, and more. Knit in Style had the best turnout ever, and because of its increasing popularity we are booking now for next year---so mark your calendars for March 17-20, 2016, and register soon. We hope you’ll join us again next year for more fiber fun! Special thanks to Mohonk’s Theme Department and Marketing Department for all of their hard work.

Keynote Speakers Trisha Malcolm of Soho Publishing (and Vogue Knitting, Sixth & Spring books, and more) & Stacy Charles, and Ragga Eriksdottir Presented Keynotes and Fashion Shows, and there were workshops galore by Gryphon Corpus, Ragga Eriksdottir, Jasmine Pai, Irina Poludnenko, and Laura Zukaite. Trisha Malcolm Vice President/Editorial Director of SOHO Publishing and editor in chief of Vogue Knitting Magazine had amazing giveaways- books and tickets to Vogue Knitting LIVE in Jan 2015 in New York. The two big prizes were for the BROADWAY BABY PACKAGE, valued at $240 - which includes 3 classes and a 3-day Marketplace ticket. Stacy Charles gave away goody bags and we all smiled.
In 2013, we had an amazing time as well! From the very first hours—checking into the gorgeous rustic rooms (fireplaces! Pressed flowers framed on the walls!), dining sumptuously among fellow knitters surrounded against a backdrop of mountains—the weekend was magical.Friday night The Yarn Company booth opened in the Victorian Parlor, displaying designer samples and the delicious yarns to make them with, as well as exclusives like Lorna’s Laces Urban Underground colorways, Tilli Tomas’s Knockout on Shale and Slate, and much more. Ragga gave her delightful presentation on Icelandic knitting Friday night, showing slides of her knitting ancestors (and a hot Viking for luck) and revealing the nature of lopi wool and the history of the lopi sweater.
Saturday started with a grand breakfast, and then there were classes all day---Donna Panner, Irina Poludnenko, Stephen West—
and the Westknits Fun Squad, as well as a Knitting Study Hall. What a peaceful place to work! In between activities there was the pool, of course, with its underwater music and surrounding woodland vista, complete with wheeling hawks; the ice skating rink in the nearby pavilion; the incredible Barn Museum brimming with Mohonk history (school desks from the 1920s! an original post office! carriages, tools, dumbwaiters!)…and miles of trails up and down the mountains, around the legendary lake. Saturday night, design maven Shirley Paden gave an inspiring presentation about her own rocky road to success and her style of combining trend with tradition to create timeless classics. Sunday morning brunch was phenomenal—then more classes, more swag, and a final romp around the grounds. Thank you to everyone for coming and making it so truly amazing, and thanks to Mohonk Mountain House for hosting!
2012 was our debut year, and excitement was everywhere. We had workshops, classes, and even a square dance at 9 p.m., “an old-fashioned hoedown that’s fun for the whole family,” By the time the weekend was over, we were planning for the folllowing one! What a joy to have this partnership! Our favorite nearby resort, mixed with our favorite pastime!
