A Knit Story--Exclusive!

booth by petra 10 1

We are over-the-moon excited to be the exclusive US retailers of yarns from A Knit Story! This hot young Norwegian company is making its US debut at Vogue Knitting Live 2016 (Jan. 15-17)—with a sneak preview trunk show here at The Yarn Company. Specializing in baby alpaca, A Knit Story is taking over Norway with its gorgeous yarns and original designs. Outside of Norway, A Knit Story yarns could be found only in Denmark and Sweden—until now! It is our happy-ever-after to bring them overseas, right to your lap.
Baby alpaca is light and airy, as the fibers are hollow, yet it is far more durable, and softer to the touch than wool. It breathes well and is not itchy, and offers more protection than most fibers against moisture. And, free of lanolin. alpaca is safe for those allergic to sheep’s wool.
A Knit Story was formed a little over three years ago, when three friends sharing a workspace—Tove, Anna, and Charlotta, a photographer, graphic designer, and architect, respectively, but knitters all—decided to join creative forces and form a yarn company. Alpaca was popular in Norway, where everyone knits; but good-quality alpaca was scarce. Tove had been sponsoring an SOS child in Peru for years, and so flew there on an alpaca mission. Bingo! The partners set about creating their own designs featuring their baby alpaca yarn in natural, classic colors. (lthough A Knit Story offers a classic blue colorway, the company sticks mostly to natural hues, since earth tones stand the test of time, and, as Tove says, “this yarn lasts forever!”) As unknowns, A Knit Story snagged only ten retailers their first year at the national yarn fair. But word spread fast. The following year they landed a licensed production with NRK, Norway’s premier TV station, and their designs were worn onscreen during the primetime “Christmas Calendar” series. Now famous Norwegian actors are sporting Knit Story designs, and the company caters to 150 retailers. But The Yarn Company is the only company in the US to carry these amazing yarns. So come see!
There are three different Knit Story bases. Soft and light Brushed Alpaca is the most popular—176 meters per 50-gram skein, 16-18 sts/10cm on EU #4.5 (US #7) needles. Thinner Classic Twist is perfect for more classical styles and traditional Norwegian knitting, which resembles Fair Isle: 137 meters per 50-gram skein, 27-28 stitches per 10cm on EU #3-3.5 (US 2-4) needles. Lastly, chunky Chained Yarn is 75 meters per 50-gram skein, 13 stitches per 10 cm on EU #7 (US #10.5) needles.
At our trunk show we will have all of these as well as ready-made garments, all eight Knit Story knitting kits, and Tove herself! See you at The Yarn Company!

Bauhaus Sweater

Bauhaus Sweater 2

Irina Poludnenko's Bauhaus Sweater in Crazy Loaf is a splendiferous work of wearable art. We love its contrasting neckline, and the casual tunic shape that acts as a canvas for the imagination---unlimited interplay among texture, color, and geometry. Did we mention it is insanely soft wool? The Bauhaus Sweater is the perfect recipe for our Crazy Loaf yarn: each skein of Crazy Loaf gives you 690 yards of completely random amazing colors from Stonehedge Fiber Mill---so no two sweaters will be alike. The pattern takes two skeins of Crazy Loaf (for a size small); kit includes pattern and kit only.
