Babs and Moulin

Ooh, la la! It's Moulin Rose, the first exclusive colorway in a special little series from Miss Babs just for The Yarn Company. It combines a soft rose (not to be confused with a sweet pink) and a thoughtfully distributed black. Miss Babs likes to dissect what happens when dyed yarns are knitted up; after all, a skein can be beautiful on the shelf, but, as Miss Babs's accomplice Jennifer puts it, "what looks good in the hank can come out looking like clown vomit. This is not clown vomit."
Miss Babs had brushstrokes in mind when she created Moulin Rose; the black runs through the yarn in varying intensities, so when it is knitted up you get a series of blips and dashes, rather than a decided, pencil-like line.

Babs Rouge

Et voilà! Another hot exclusive colorway from Miss Babs! If Moulin Rose was a French jardin, sexy Moulin Rouge is a night in Paris itself, essential, bold red with black. Wel have it in Yet, a heavy-weight lace of 65% Merino, 35% Tussah silk, 400 yards per 2.3-ounce skein; gauge 8-10 stitches per inch on US #00-3 needles (variable in lace knitting).

(So big, it looks like a loaf of bread. Our kind of yum.) Just one Crazy Loaf is enough for a shawl; two are plenty for a sweater. Muchas Gracias to Stonehedge! This 159-year old working farm in Michigan brings us the sublime fibers gleaned from its very own flock of eight breeds of sheep and angora goats, as well as quality fibers bought and spun at Stonehedge's custom fiber-processing mill. Ziggy Played With Yarn

Welcome Back Fall and our exclusive "Space Dust" line from Koigu! This color splash celebrates our beloved 70s and 80s, inspired particularly by David Bowie's "Ziggy Stardust," though luckily the Moonage Daydream has endured and far beyond our own starry youth. Koigu's "Space Dust" also conjures the wild Missoni style of the day, with colors that are ray-gun glorious! Inspired by Bowie's legendary Ziggy face paint (recall the lightning stripe)—the palette of which he took from the baboon, drama king of the monkey universe, we have six neon solids in the series, all in Koigu Bulky!

Madelinetosh Midnight in Manhattan Exclusives

You have probably already heard about this by now...our exclusive new Madelinetosh colorway… Midnight in Manhattan! Deep and dreamy as a summer night, this exquisite blue promises to satisfy through the cold winter months, and beyond. Midnight in Manhattan conjures the wilderness beyond the rooftops, oceans of sky and imagination! This is a beautifully variegated yarn with endless possibilities. Created exclusively for the Yarn Company, Midnight in Manhattan will be available in all of the store’s Madtosh bases: fingering-weight Tosh Sock and beloved Merino Light, ever-popular Tosh DK, delicious Pashmina, Merino, Prairie, Tosh Lace, the gorgeous worsted-weight Tosh Vintage, and fun and funky Chunky, bulky ASAP and Dandelion and more!

Midnight in Manhattan is their 14thcustom colorway, and took weeks of experimenting and 12 skeins of yarn to reach perfection. John writes: " When we were creating the custom color I used three high resolution photos for guidance. All were night pictures facing east in large urban environments. One of NYC (not sure of location), London in Hyde Park, and Berlin. The characteristic that I tried to catch was that all large cities project large amounts of light upward. This causes the sky to be a dark blue on the lower horizon and closer to black on upper horizon."
