We are featured on Facebook for Business!

The Yarn Company’s Tavy Ronen’s was specially selected to be featured on Facebook for Business as it highlights small business owners who have used Facebook to expand their business. Thanks to Facebook, The Yarn Company has been able to reach and connect knitters, designers, and indie dyers the world over. In her post, which features a photo of a very impish looking Tavy, she describes her path to the world of yarn. A business professor for 26 years, Tavy bought The Yarn Company for fun with her brother Assaf, a corporate lawyer who’d studied architecture. Together they completely overhauled the space, creating a gallery of mind-boggling high-end yarn. A grand adventure! And a great success, with special thanks to Facebook.

The Yarn Company is showcased in the New York Times!

NYTImes ARTICLEsmaller

The Yarn Company is showcased in the New York Times Travel section (Oct. 29, 2015), in a fabulous article by Julie Lasky. Curious about the wild world of knitting in the wilderness, and looking to hone her own skills, Ms. Lasky joined our fourth fiber fest at Mohonk, last March. For those of you who haven’t had the pleasure: Knit in Style Weekend is a blast! There are workshops and lectures by top designers, knitting circles, fashion shows, and plenty of goodies for sale at The Yarn Company’s Marketplace—all in this divine lakeside resort. The house is vast but has many cozy nooks and parlors, and of course panoramic views all round. Immersed in Knit in Style, Ms. Lansky noted Mohonk’s “soft, floral carpets and walls hung with vernacular mountain landscapes,” and also that “much of the knitting action took place in a large second-floor parlor and nearby antechamber with comfortable sofas and armchairs.” True dat! Nestled deep in the Catskills, Mohonk Mountain House is one of the top ten US destinations chosen by Condé Nast Traveler Readers. It has been family owned and operated since 1869, and is a national historic landmark, just 90 miles north of NYC. The mountains are breathtaking, and the food is out of this world.

Be sure to register early for our next Knit in Style Weekend, March 17-20, 2016. Space is limited, so save your spot! Meet old friends and make new ones, enjoy classes for all levels, bring your works-in-progress. Partake of the wisdom of Vogue Knitting’s Trisha Malcolm, Norah Gaughan and other superstars. Get instruction, check out debut patterns, and taste delicious food and new yarns! Enjoy the peace and quiet and, if you like, what Ms. Lanky calls knitting’s “rabid cult of sociability”—and let the mountains inspire you! Thanks to Ms. Lansky for joining us and spreading the word—and to Jennifer May for taking great pix. Thanks also to Elizabeth Strein and Shawn Rice for their tremendous effort in hosting The Yarn Company every year!

TYC in Time Out

Lookie! The Yarn Company made the Nov. 20–26 issue of Time Out! We hit the newsstands on Nov. 19, with our goodies among the essential "5 Gifts to Buy" on p. 26. We are delighted by the write-up, and echo the fab mag's sentiment that "if you really want to blow Mom's socks off, we suggest signing up for one of their classes and knitting her a custom scarf or sweater. (Your sibs will be jealous they didn't think of it first.)" There is a great photo of Irina Poludnenko's glorious Swamp Shawl (whoops- labeled incorrectly in artice). The Swamp Scarf, a marvel of texture in silk and merino is a project for all levels---so it makes a great gift for (or from) even novice knitters. Kit includes yarn and pattern only. Thank you very much, Time Out!

A little about us first, to put it all in context:

The Yarn Company, in its current iteration (purchased by Ronen siblings 3.5 years ago), is an innovative fiber arts destination focused on highlighting the artisanship in the various art forms. From the lush walls of yarns and latest fabrics to classes from basic to the most esoteric, the new Yarn Company’s NYC showroom is a modern and clean gallery space brimming with creative energy. To complement the store’s new focus on artisanship, they've amassed a vast collection of hand-spun and hand-dyed bespoke yarns and fibers, many of which are only found directly through the artisans that dye them or at fiber festivals. Their wide selection of exclusive colorways and yarns designed in collaboration with the Ronens has garnered The Yarn Company widespread recognition, from knitting related publications to local TV and national coverage such as NBC and Martha Stewart shows, and recently, Facebook, amongst others.

In conjunction with the exclusive products designs The Yarn Company carries, they have collaborated with some of the top designers and design schools in the industry to create fashion forward patterns and designs.

The think-tank structure of classes features weekly, and semester long classes in everything from the most basic to the most esoteric, and are taught by The Yarn Company’s star-studded design staff and hand-picked industry teaching experts.   Guest artists from around the world grace the NYC boutique for workshops, events, signings and more. The Yarn Company’s parties, events, trips and theme programs (they are the official knitting theme provider for Mohonk Mountain House, voted Code Nastes’ # 1 resort in America) elevate fiber arts to fashion.

The result: creating unique and exclusive yarns, colorways and designs with the industry’s top designers, in keeping with the store's high-fashion NYC aesthetic.
